Information About Large Trash Pickup

The Village of Hamburg Department of Public Works conducts a large trash pickup three times a year - the third FULL week of March, June and September (work week of Monday thru Friday) unless otherwise noted on the homepage of the website.  Village residents (excluding Allie Lane, Jordy Court, Stelle Street, Scooter Circle, Scooter Lane) should have their trash at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your regular garbage collection day for that week.  Crews will pick up one time at your address.  600 lbs. maximum.  Please do no put items out until the week of large trash.  
 
Large trash is metals, furniture and construction/demolition debris produced by a homeowner and used in a residence in the Village.
 
Items ELIGIBLE for curbside pick up are:
 
Metals:  Gutters, metal siding, pipes, shelving, swing sets, etc.  No appliances will be collected by the Village.
 
Household Items:  Furniture, carpets, mattresses Mattresses must be bagged or wrapped in plastic (do not have to bag/wrap box springs).  You may provide your own bag/wrap or bags are available for purchase at Public Works, 425 Pleasant Avenue, $6.00 cash or check.
 
Construction/Demolition Debris: shingles, wood, plasterboard, concrete, etc.  Limit 10 containers or bundles, 60 lbs. each.  Wood items (2x4, 2x8, 4x4, 8x8, rail road ties, etc.) cannot be longer than 8 feet.
 
** Keep each large trash item in separate piles when placing at the curb for pick up **
 
Items NOT ELIGIBLE for pickup are:

Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, stoves, ranges, ovens, washing machines, clothes dryers, dehumidifiers, dishwashers and hot water tanks Contact Erie County Dept. of Environment & Planning at www.erie.gov/recycling - click on "Beyond the Curb" or call at 858-8390.
 
Tires, Propane Tanks, Car Batteries and Microwaves(for Village of Hamburg residents and property owners only)  These items MUST BE taken to the Dept. of Public Works garage, 375 Pleasant Avenue on the Monday following Large Trash Week.  There is a fee of $5.00 per tire; $7.00 tire on a rim; Propane tank (20 lb. grill tank) $5.00.  Drop off hours are 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.  No charge for car batteries or microwaves.
 
Electronic Equipment:  (for Village of Hamburg residents and property owners only) Items such as televisions, computers, printers, keyboards, monitors (no fee), etc. MUST BE taken to the Dept. of Public Works garage, 375 Pleasant Avenue on the Monday following Large Trash Week. No charge.  Drop off hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m Must show proof of village residency or property ownership.  For other disposal options contact Erie County at 858-6996 or recycle@erie.gov/recycling.
 
Large Trash Generated by a Contractor:  These items must be removed by the contractor.
 
Household Hazardous Waste:  Pesticides, pool chemicals, oil-based paint, flammable liquids, etc.  Contact Erie County hazardous waste hotline at 858-6800 or visit their website www.erie.gov/recycling for disposal options.
 
Medical Waste: Medical waste is not accepted by the Village.  Please contact your healthcare provider for questions about specific items and the proper disposal of each.
