Hometown Heroes Banners

In April 2023, local resident Sue Jantzi began her 12th season of the Hamburg Hometown Hero’s Banner Project.  30-40 military veterans of all branches and ranks, who are or were Hamburg residents at some time, will be honored again this year with a banner.   The banners are hung right around the first of April, on Buffalo Street between the Legion Drive-Clark Street roundabout and Union Street, and also on Main Street between Center and Lake Street, and are removed after Veteran’s Day.   The banner is then given to the family as a keepsake.

The Applications include specific eligibility requirements and are available at Village and Town Hall.   Each are considered in the order they are received. A picture, in uniform, will be also be requested.

The banners are $150.00 each and instead of charging the families, Sue depends on donations to fund the program. Donations in any amount are always appreciated.  The Hometown Heroes Banner Project has been a great way to honor and thank our veterans and their families for their service to our country.  If you are not requesting a banner, but simply want to make a donation to the program, the money will be used to offset the cost of honoring local veterans for years to come.

Send completed applications and/or a donation to Sue Jantzi, 213 E. Prospect Avenue, Hamburg, NY 14075.  Feel free to contact Sue at 716-863-5880 or email her at gjant@aol.com for additional information.

Thank you so much for your support!
